Our Ministerial History

Our congregation has enjoyed the care and leadership of professional ministry since calling Rev. Lee Greiner 1997 A graduate of Starr King School for the Ministry, Rev. Greiner provided fine intellectual and congregational leadership guiding the congregation into financial independence. During her seven- year stay we were able to burn our mortgage and transform our physical environment; the building and grounds, from a former mortuary into a bustling and beautiful indoor and outdoor sanctuary. Her decision to leave Idaho Falls was accepted reluctantly by the congregation in 2004.

Ministry and support for the transition to a new vision of our ministry in this community was provided by Rev. Elizabeth Selle Jones and Rev. Jeffery Lambkin, our interim ministers who gracefully and with great wisdom and insight helped us to better understand our gifts, and our goals. Sadly and suddenly, their ministry was cut short in the winter of 2005 with the illness of Rev. Jones, their necessary departure soon after and the subsequent death of Rev. Jones in the spring of 2006.

With gracious assistance from the District Executive and many neighboring ministers of the Mountain Desert District, the capable and resourceful congregational leadership continued the trasition.

Nevertheless a fine team of Search Committee members, led by chairperson Richard Wilde; Ruth Barnes, Donna Nelson, Vic Allen, Dennis Jorgenson, Ann Totemeier, and Karen Shopshire followed through with their task and Rev. Lyn Stangland Cameron was called and began her ministry with UUCIF in September 2006.

Rev. Cameron, a second career minister, graduated from Andover Newton Theological Seminary in Newton MA in 2004 and followed her gradation with a year-long internship at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis with supervisor Fred Muir. Her earlier career was as a faculty member and Associate Professor at Dean College in Franklin MA, teaching in the Visual and Performing Arts program and as a costume designer for many theatre and dance productions. She also spent seven years working as a part-time Director of Religious Education at Rockland UU Church in Rockland, MA and at the Unitarian Universalist of Canton in Canton, MA. Rev. Cameron is among those who founded the UUA Ministry For Earth and is devoted to spreading the good news of Unitarian Universalism and its message of caring community and love for all life.
